DESCRIPTION:Sept. 28 | Oct. 4\,5 | Oct. 11\,12 \nJoin us for three family-friendly weekends of celebrating and uplifting the vibrant beauty within the Latinx diaspora with traditional arts & crafts\, hands-on learning activities\, elevated workshops for older kids (learn more below)\, and exciting live entertainment. We’ve partnered with new artists in our community to bring never-before-seen cultural performances and enrichment experiences to Fairyland.  \n\nFull Schedule\nSept. 28\n11 am – 1 pm: Chilean “Arpilleras” Arts & Crafts\n1:30 pm – 2:20 pm: Cuicacalli Ballet Folklorico\n\nOct. 4 & 5\n11 am – 1 pm: Chilean “Arpilleras” Arts & Crafts\n11:30 am: Guatemalan Worry Doll Workshop (Saturday ONLY. See details below)\n1:30 pm and 2:30 pm: Brazilian Beats w/Marcos Odara\n\nOct. 11\n11 am – 1 pm: Chilean “Arpilleras” Arts & Crafts\n11:30 am and 1 pm: Guatemalan Worry Dolls Workshop (See details below)\n1:30 pm and 2:30 pm: Aguacero Puerto Rican Bomba Music & Dance\n\nOct. 12\n11 am – 1 pm: Chilean “Arpilleras” Arts & Crafts\n1:30 pm and 2:30 pm: Cascada de Flores Musical Stories\n \n\nEntertainment\nCuicacalli brings its youth dancers to the stage. The San Francisco-based dance company known for its Indigenous\, Ballet Folklorico\, and Contemporary Dance programs is sure to inspire and mesmerize Fairyland friends of all ages. \nMarcos Odara has been playing the conga drums for 40 years and teaching for the last 20+. Odara hails from Salvador da Bahia\, Brazil\, and now calls Oakland home.\n \nAguacero keeps the traditions and creative expressions of Puerto Rican Bomba music and dance alive with performances\, art\, and education.\n\nCascada de Flores combines music\, puppets\, nursery rhymes\, and live storytelling for a joyful bilingual adventure into imagination.  \nWorkshops for Kids ages 8-12: Maya Worry Dolls\nBring the older kids to our new special workshops designed for upper elementary and middle school-age students. Maya “Worry Dolls” invite children to safely process sources of anxiety\, sadness\, and worry. In this workshop\, we’ll talk about their origin story and how they are used. Students will explore advanced crafting with tying thread and fabric cutting while being immersed in cultural learning and developing critical skills for emotional regulation and healthy processing of difficult feelings. \n\nWe ask that families with older kids who would like to participate sign up ahead of time\, as spaces are limited.  \nLatinx Heritage celebrations at Fairyland are full of beautiful festivities the entire family can enjoy!
