Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Celebration. Enjoy dance performances, food tasting, games, music & movement, cultural arts & crafts, storytellers, book celebration, and much more!

Every weekend in May, Fairyland invites you and your family to enjoy lively performances, folklore, storytelling, music, art, games, and food as we affirm and uplift the vibrant beauty and diversity within the Asian and Pacific Islander diaspora.

Explore the flavors, rhythms, dances, and crafts across tapestries of cultures. Celebrate community and tradition all month long.

Plus: brand new Book Celebration with Charlotte Cheng’s “Icy Fruit” on Monday, May 26. 

Full Schedule 

May 3 & May 4

  • 11:00-1:00 p.m. Learn Siapo – Traditional Fabric of the Samoa Islands 
  • 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Gaga Dance Performance. Youth dancers from Gaga Dance Group perform classical art forms and folk dances that explore China’s rich cultural heritage.

May 10 & 11

  • 11:00-1:00 p.m. Learn Siapo – Traditional Fabric of the Samoa Islands 
  • 11:00-2:00 p.m. Explore & play traditional childhood games from China and Taiwan
  • 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Miss V of “Kids Go Mandarin” brings bilingual music and movement to the Emerald City Stage

May 17

  • 11:00-1:00 p.m. Learn Koinobori, Japanese kite making
  • 11:00-2:00 p.m. Explore & play traditional childhood games from China and Taiwan
  • 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Oakland Taiko performs with electrifying rhythms and a booming presence.

May 18

  • 11:00-1:00 p.m. Learn Koinobori, Japanese kite making
  • 11:00-2:00 p.m. Explore & play traditional childhood games from China and Taiwan
  • 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Live Storyteller Oliver Chin

May 24 

  • 11:00-1:00 p.m. Make your own Thai flower necklace garland
  • 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Mochi Donut Demo & Decoration by Third Culture Bakery
    Meet Chef Sam Butarbutar from Third Culture Bakery. Chef Sam does a donut demo and kids get to decorate and eat their own mochi donut!  
  • 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Halau Makana Polynesian Dancers bring their mesmerizing flow to Aesop’s Playhouse for one day only. 

May 25

  • 11:00-1:00 p.m. Make your own Thai flower necklace garland

May 26

  • 11:30 a.m. Book Celebration: Icy Fruit By Charlotte Cheng, illustrated by Vivian Mineker
