Giddy-up! It’s time for a full gallop into the Year of the Fire Horse, also known as the Red Horse Year. Revered for its strength, perseverance, and limitless freedom, the Fire Horse is an emblem of innovation, progress, prosperity, and transformation. 

Fairyland’s Lunar New Year celebrations kick off the year of the Horse with lively festivities full of color, creativity, and community. From lion dances to lucky crafts, delicious eats to powerful beats, a stable of good fortune and fun await.

Schedule of Events
Saturday, February 7 & Sunday, February 8, 2026
10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Sweet Treats Sampling: rice balls, fruit jelly, good luck candies
10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Learn to Lion Dance
11:00 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Playdough Wonton Making
1:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.: Cal VSA Lion Dance Performances

Sweet Treat Sampling
Enjoy a sampling of traditional rice balls with sweet soup, fruit jelly, and good luck candies. Good thing there are 10 acres of green space for energy-burning horsin’ around!

Learn How to Lion Dance
From cubs to elders, everybody in your pride can claw their way through these simple steps: bow, explore, eat, toss luck, sleep. 

Playdough “Wonton” Making Class
Practice your wonton wrapping skills using playdough for a fun foray into fine motor, hands-on pretend play! Receive a recipe card for making your own ‘real wontons’ at home.

Special Performances
Get ready for the mane event! Cal VSA Lion Dance is UC Berkeley’s one and only student-run lion dance team. Serving the Bay Area for the past 11 years, this collective is a tight-knit troupe of performers connected by culture, passion, and comradery. Lion Dance is a performance art that combines martial arts, acrobatics, and dance to celebrate cultural festivals and auspicious occasions.
