Camp Out Under the Stars at Fairyland!

Create a magical summer memory with your family at an overnight campout inside Children’s Fairyland. Summer Sleepovers invite families to pitch tents, enjoy rides at sunset,  watch a puppet show, share dinner together, and fall asleep under the stars in a safe, supervised environment designed for kids. 

Each sleepover includes dinner, rides, special entertainment, a bedtime story, and a continental breakfast the next morning. Just bring a tent and sleeping bags—we’ll do the rest!

What to Expect:
Entertainment & Activities

From setting up camp to waking up with the animals, here’s how your Summer Sleepover will unfold:

Evening:

5:30 p.m. – Gates Open; Check-in at Teddy Bear Picnic Gate
5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Set up camp
5:30 to 7:00 p.m. – Dinner in Old West with Rico Rico Taco
8:00 p.m. – Puppet Show
8:15 p.m. – Popcorn
8:30 p.m. – Special Performance at the Emerald City Stage
9:15 p.m. – Bedtime story
9:30 p.m. – Get ready for bed
10:00 p.m. – Lights out and off to dreamland!

Morning:

6:00 a.m. – Wake Up
6:00 to 7:30 a.m. – Continental Breakfast in the Old West
7:30 a.m. – Pack up camp
8:00 a.m. – Exit the park

Throughout the evening, families will enjoy rides, time to explore Fairyland after hours, special evening activities, and the special experience of falling asleep inside the park and watching our animals wake up in the morning.

Let’s Taco-bout Something New! Craveable Catered Cuisine 

We’ve leveled up our dinner experience! Oakland’s own Rico Rico Taco is catering Summer Sleepovers this year, turning your “campfire meal” into a mouth-watering moment with maximum flavor. Enjoy a delicious taco spread with bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and options for everyone in your crew, including vegetarian and vegan choices. Bon appétit! 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

When's the last chance to claim a spot?

Sleepovers sell out quickly! Capacity is limited, and we recommend booking as soon as possible. Reservations close two weeks before the event date. For last-minute reservations, you can check availability by emailing julia.goldhoff@fairyland.org.

When should we arrive, and where do we check-in?
  • Please arrive and check in between 5:30 and 6:15 p.m
  • The gates close promptly at 6:15 p.m. and will remain closed for the duration of the event.
  • Check-in takes place at the Teddy Bear Picnic Area Gate, located off Bellevue Avenue near the gazebo. Event signage will direct you to the correct entrance.
Is parking available?

Parking is available on Bellevue Avenue. This lot is operated by the City of Oakland and costs $5 per day (Saturday to Sunday). 

Although we will have security operating all night, please do not leave anything of value in clear view inside your vehicle to prevent theft and car break-ins!

Please print out your parking identification card and place it in your front window with the Fairyland logo visible. This will help our night security staff identify the cars that are a part of the sleepover. 

Who supervises summer sleepovers?

Fairyland staff and overnight security guards are on duty for the entire event. Overnight security staff walking the grounds and patrolling Bellevue. 

What should I bring?

Please bring the essentials for a comfortable overnight stay:

  • Tent 
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad or air mattress
  • Pillow
  • Flashlight or headlamp 
  • Pajamas
  • Layers (long pants, sweater, jacket, and warm socks)
  • Hand towel (no showers available)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Optional
    • Comfort items for children (stuffed animal, blanket, etc.) 
    • Wagon to wheel your items into the park 
    • Cooler for personal snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic only)
What items are not permitted at Summer Sleepovers?

Items Not Permitted:

  • Heating devices, or any kind of open flame 
  • Pets 
  • Straws (disposable straws can harm our animals) 
  • Electronic devices (personal stereos, video games, and tvs). Cellphones are permitted but must be silenced during quiet hours.
  • Alcoholic beverages 
  • Food for the animals 
  • Styrofoam products 
  • Glass containers
    What meals are provided? Can we bring our own food?
    • Dinner the first evening and a continental breakfast the next morning are included.
    • Families may bring personal snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Alcohol is strictly prohibited.
    • Please notify us in advance if anyone in your group has food allergies or dietary restrictions.
    Can I add a family member to our registration?

    Our Summer Sleepover program is very popular and fills up quickly. Once a sleepover is filled,  additional family members may not be able to register. To ensure no one in your family misses out, please register any additional family members as soon as possible.  

    Are reservations refundable?

    We can refund your reservation, minus a $25 processing fee, if we receive your cancellation by the deadline one of the following ways:

    • Call directly at (510) 929 – 3518. If we miss your call, be sure to leave a voicemail with your name and phone number.

    Which attractions will be open?

    All of our storybook sets, rides, and attractions will be open for families to enjoy. Rides operate until 8:45 p.m., after which families can continue exploring the park and enjoying the other evening activities. Our animals will be tucked away for the night, but in the morning, you can watch them wake up and start their day.
